Sofia Coppola Somewhere Sofia Coppola Somewhere Sofia Coppola SomewhereEggs Benedict in Sofia Coppola’s Somewhere (2010).

I tend to believe that Sofia Coppola is a woman who appreciates indulging in a good breakfast. The time, thought and scrutiny with which she focuses on Cleo’s arrangement and composition of Eggs Benedict is impressive: the deliberate placing of the ham and poached eggs on the muffins, the dripping of Hollandaise sauce and the notching of chives as a garnish. While it suits the shiftless and lethargic mood of the film, which is satiated with long takes that attempt to saturate everyday banality with significance, it also appears as a gossamer fetishisation of the meal itself.
