Yang Ya-Ching is the inspired girl behind a photographic project in which she approaches strangers roaming the streets of Paris for a kiss. Each photograph is titled according to where the kiss took place and creates an interesting and unique mapping of the city. I found the differences between each kiss and the strange intimacy of the moment really fascinating. The titles that distinguish individual photographs according to the location, as opposed to the male involved in the encounter, works to construct an abstract sense of place. In this sense, the representation of paris is just as interesting as the new and fleeting relationship forming in front of the camera. I wonder what secrets she has discovered in each little kiss…after all, Mae West claimed that a man’s kiss is his signature.
